If you are an Internet user and you like surfing the web and using IM applications everyday, then you must have a firewall installed into the operating system. That's because many websites can automatically install dangerous applications into your system without your will, allowing hackers to take over your computer. This can also be done using IM applications, like Yahoo Messenger. That's why it's important to have a firewall installed into the system. A firewall is basically a program which can filter all the data transmitted in and out of your computer to the Internet and can intercept any hacker attack, stopping it before it's too late.

Unfortunately, the Windows default firewall is too simple and it doesn't work as expected. Besides that, it's very difficult to configure. Using a firewall included in an antivirus solution is also not a good idea, because it may be too complex for an average user. fireBwall is different from all these, as it's a simple Windows firewall that offers just the features required by an average user, all in a simple and intuitive interface.

When run, the program will display a log window, which can show real time information about every network connection performed. By selecting the second tab of the interface, the user can configure firewall rules. As such, he can filter certain MAC or IP addresses that he thinks to be dangerous. By default, the program is already configured for best results and the firewall rules should only be modified by advanced users.

fireBwall is virtually compatible with any Windows version and any network adapter, whether it's wired or wireless. Besides configuring filtering rules, the program also allows setting it to run together with Windows and also to start minimized, for not cluttering the desktop. When running the program in a minimized mode, an icon will be displayed in the system tray, automatically blocking any illegal connection transparently.

Pros

It allows configuring firewall rules in a deeper way than using the Windows default firewall. Besides that, it can display in real time the state of network connections, using a log window. Furthermore, it can be configured to start together with Windows and run minimized.

Cons

Configuring the firewall rules requires some knowledge regarding networks and firewalls. fireBwall is a simple and fully-featured firewall for Windows, which has everything an average user needs to stay protected on the Internet.
